The Danger of Drifting (Hebrews 2:1-4)

When I was a teenager, I went to Florida to spend some time with a friend of mine. His name

was Brian. Don’t think that wasn’t confusing at times. Anyway, He lived on the water and we

would take out his boat almost every day. One day, we took the boat out, got out onto the

water and the engine died. There we were adrift to wherever the whims of the water would

take us. Fortunately, someone came by and towed us in.

That’s a picture of what can happen to us, spiritually, if we don’t, as the author puts it, “pay

much closer attention to what we have heard”.

As we continue our study in Hebrews, don’t forget the big idea of the epistle is that “Jesus is

Greater”. That’s the message of Hebrews and the title of the series. Jesus is Greater. We’ve

seen already, just in chapter 1, how Jesus was the greatest revelation. We saw last week how

Jesus was greater than the angels. And that theme continues into chapter 2.
